Porcelain Lights inspired by the Garden

with Sabine Dahn

Saturday 2nd August 2014
1pm until 4pm
Porcelain is a very delicate and smooth material and its translucent quality can display light texture to great effect, especially when brought out by candle light. We will use the technique of slabbing to make the basic shape of a simple tea light holder. You are then invited to explore the gardens for leaves, small fruit, bark or any other object with a texture that catches your eye and that you might like to transfer to your porcelain light. You can make a light for yourself as a memento of the garden or use it as a very early Christmas gift.
Suitable for beginners and more experienced potters alike.

Cost: £35, includes porcelain and biscuit firing; if you would like to have colour highlights and a glaze finish added to your piece after the initial firing there is a surplus charge of £5 per item. Samples of colours and finishes will be available. Your completed work will be fired by Sabine at her Brighton studio and be available to collect from Sussex Prairies approximately three weeks later.

What to bring: It would be useful to bring an apron or an old shirt just to keep the clay dust off your clothes. If you have any textured materials that you are very fond off and might like to use to make impressions on the clay you are very welcome to bring these along.

If you would like further information please contact Sabine on 01273 556795 or sabine.dahn@talktalk.net
