Batik Worshop with Susan d’Souza

Friday 9th August 2024 - Saturday 10th August 2024 | 10:00am - 2:00pm

Batik Worshop with Susan d’Souza

Day one of this workshop provides the opportunity to explore creative batik (a wax resist technique). Experiment with tools and methods for applying the hot wax to paper, cotton and silk fabrics before hand painting the colour using cold water dyes. Natural forms from the garden or your own images can form design inspiration to create pattern and design ideas. You will produce a range of samples for sketchbooks, artwork or as test pieces for day 2 if you take the full course.
Completing day two will allow participants to extend their skills by designing and making a larger scale more developed piece in the form of either a silk scarf or large cotton wall hanging.
No previous textile painting or batik experience is necessary this is a relaxed and creative textile workshop. Those with more experience are welcome to use the session to develop their own ideas and learn new approaches with tutor guidance.

Cost: £70 for day one only or £120 for both days including tea, coffee & biscuits, all materials and garden entry.

Wonderful garden well worth a visit. Great variety of plants showing so many ways of portraying a garden layout. Must comment on the great tea and cakes selection, our dog loved the doggy ice cream!

Beautifully planted area, in which you are encouraged to walk along paths between the plants so can be completely surrounded by foliage - a lovely effect.
