Colour, Texture, Abstraction In The Garden 5 day Drawing and Painting Retreat with Katie Sollohub

Wednesday 18th September 2024 - Sunday 22nd September 2024 | 9:00am - 2:00pm

Colour, Texture, Abstraction In The Garden 5 day Drawing and Painting Retreat with Katie Sollohub

Relax, breathe, listen, let go of expectations and tune into the beauty of your surroundings. Come into this beautiful garden and creatively explore its visual, and tactile delights.
This is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the gardens at their best. Spend two days making large drawings, and 3 days painting, looking for structure, colour and texture, listening to the sounds. You will be guided through specific exercises using rhythm and repetition, aimed at easing you into abstract painting by building up layers of colour, evocative of the multitude of textures and sounds of the garden. Painting with acrylics/oils/gouache or mixed media, you will make large scale layered, abstract compositions.
Each day you will be guided with meditation to tune into your senses, and given warm up exercises to draw and paint directly from the garden, increasing your sense of connection to the visual and sensory world. The larger scale drawings and paintings can be made inside the studio or out in the garden, depending on the weather and your preference.
9am meet/9.30am start with tuition until 2pm each day (full access to the garden and limited access to studio until 5pm each day)
Cost: £400 (includes garden entry fee, tuition and studio space 9am – 2pm with hot drinks and biscuits available all day) Materials not included
Contact Katie for booking and info on or text 07905244623 For more information on the tutor visit
NB This course would combine well with the Mixed Media course 29/30 June or the Sketchbook Course 11/12 July 2024

Wonderful garden well worth a visit. Great variety of plants showing so many ways of portraying a garden layout. Must comment on the great tea and cakes selection, our dog loved the doggy ice cream!

Beautifully planted area, in which you are encouraged to walk along paths between the plants so can be completely surrounded by foliage - a lovely effect.
