Sussex Prairie Garden is now closed for the winter
This is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the Prairie Gardens at their best. Spend a day making large drawings with charcoal, followed by 2 days working with ink and paint. Looking for structure, colour and texture, listening to the sounds, you will be guided through drawing processes preparing you to make expressive paintings by building up layers of transparent colour, with marks evocative of the multitude of textures and sounds of the garden. Painting with acrylics/ink/gouache with glazes and mixed media, you will make large scale, layered, compositions. Each day you will be guided with meditation to tune into your senses, and given warm up exercises to draw and paint directly from the garden, sometimes literally in the flower beds, increasing your sense of connection to the visual and sensory world. The larger scale drawings and paintings can be made inside the studio or out in the garden, depending on the weather and your preference. Cost: £240 includes garden entry fee, tuition, refreshments and studio space 9am – 2pm.
Access to the garden, and limited studio space available all day until 5pm
*NB this course is non-residential but I can help you find accommodation nearby if you are not local. Treat it as your own personal retreat.

“It is amazing the marks that just appear. I have a yearning to paint dancing trees. I love the wind inviting the branches to dance together. The different moves. Fascinating. Exciting.” GLEN – Drawing and Meditation 2024
