Explore hand stitching in confidence building and therapeutic ways
Join me for 2 days to learn about fabric and hand stitch techniques in a relaxed yet productive environment. Free and experimental approaches to stitching will be supported by some traditional skills. A variety of abstract fabric arrangements will encourage a complete focus on manipulating the visual elements shape, colour, texture, tone, line, pattern. Aesthetic choices and decisions will be made when balancing your arrangements. Making these decisions will be contemplative, revealing and fun. The joys of a simple therapeutic running stitch will remind you of a ‘make do and mend’ approach. An introduction to Kantha, Sashiko and Boro will support your broader understanding of how other cultures repurpose fabrics. We will build up a variety of experimental, intuitive ideas about how to embellish our fabric assemblages. As we take our stitches for a walk a design will gradually evolve. Expect to set up and start at least 4 stitched collages so that you can complete your work at home, on the train or wherever else you feel like finishing them.

Beautifully planted area, in which you are encouraged to walk along paths between the plants so can be completely surrounded by foliage - a lovely effect.
