Natural & Bundle Dyeing for Beginners with Amanda Duke
NATURAL AND BUNDLE DYEING FOR BEGINNERS
22nd and 24th July
This 2-day course includes all materials that have been scoured and mordanted by Amanda prior to the course date. This will include all fabric needed for the 2 days and silk scarf blank 180 x 45cm ready to print. Detailed notes about scouring and mordanting processes will be sent to you after course completion.
Day 1 Natural Dyeing – an introduction
The majority of natural dyes are vegetable dyes from plant sources – roots, berries, bark, leaves, and wood and other biological sources such as fungi and lichens. You will make a series of samples and document/record/label your findings. The aim will be to equip you with sufficient skills to get started at home after the course.
Day 2 Eco-Print –
This is a fascinating way of printing onto fabric. You will use flowers and leaves from the location grounds in a contact printing method that allows them to transfer their colour, texture and patterns. The effects and results you can get from a range of plants is fascinating. This course is an exploration into the surprising and exciting effects that can be achieved by wrapping plants in cloth and processing the bundles through a simmer or steam process. You will make a few practice bundles before bundling a full-sized silk scarf.
Maximum number of places – 6 Cost £190 incl. £25 fabric and other media = £190

Wonderful garden well worth a visit. Great variety of plants showing so many ways of portraying a garden layout. Must comment on the great tea and cakes selection, our dog loved the doggy ice cream!

Beautifully planted area, in which you are encouraged to walk along paths between the plants so can be completely surrounded by foliage - a lovely effect.
