Learn to Crochet a Granny Square with Debbie Jarvis

Date: Friday 23rd August 2024
Time: 9:30am – 2.00pm

Take your first step into the wonderful world of crochet with a fabulous granny square workshop.
This is an ideal introduction to crochet and is suitable for complete beginners. You will learn how to hold the yarn and crochet hook, how to make chain stitches and treble crochet stitches.
You will be shown how to read a simple crochet pattern or to read a crochet chart; whichever method works best for your learning style.
With the guidance of your experienced tutor, you’ll be led through each step of the process, and you can take home your granny square, pattern and your new crochet kit so that you can carry on making these at home after the workshop.
Grannies can be used to make blankets using up all your bits and bobs of yarns. You can crochet them together to make cardigans or sweaters. They make fab bags and there are so many uses it is impossible to list. All from just the one square.
You need only to bring your enthusiasm on the day. All materials will be provided, and you’ll have some goodies to take home with you too.
Don’t forget that your course cost includes access to the Gardens for the rest of the day for workshop participants.
Spaces are limited, so please book asap to secure your place.
Cost: £55 to include all materials needed, refreshments during the workshop and entry to the gardens for the rest of the day.

About Debbie
My passion for crafts began at an early age and I have always been a keen knitter and sewer. I followed a more academic choice in my career and ended up teaching accounting courses at local colleges. After a spell of living abroad I completed a City & Guilds course in Patchwork and Quilting and had time to hone my textile skills teaching there. This helped me to make the transition to teaching textile crafts when I returned to the UK.
I began to teach crochet, sewing, knitting, patchwork and quilting which is my real passion locally. I work as a City & Guilds tutor and assessor for the School of Stitched Textiles and teach textile crafts within my Crafty Workshops group. Regular monthly classes and workshops are held in the Horsham and Southwater area in crochet, knitting, sewing, and quilting.
I love scraps and hate to throw anything away as I am always sure there is something I can use it for. I make scrappy bags and pouches as well as numerous other scrappy projects. Upcycling and reusing are so important nowadays and teaching others how to do this makes me happy too. I keep my teaching style fun and exciting as well as achieving the goals; people learn better when they are relaxed and having fun. Being able to pass on my passions is my favourite pastime.
