Old Herbaceous – a one man play by Alfred Shaughnessy

* THIS EVENT HAS NOW FINISHED *

Sunday 29th July 2018 | 5:30pm - 8:45pm

Old Herbaceous – a one man play by Alfred Shaughnessy

Old Herbaceous

Produced by Kick In The Head Productions
Directed by Simon Downing
With Giles Shenton as Herbert Pinnegar

Described as “Downton Abbey with gardening tips”, Old Herbaceous is the humorous love story of a single-minded yet gentle man with a passion for plants and is a charming one man play which has entranced audiences around the country.
An acute and sometimes hilarious observation of relationships between the classes in a simpler age, Old Herbaceous is sprinkled with witticisms and epithets. The evening blossoms into tender humour, much in the traditionally understated English style of the early 20th century.
As Old Herbaceous, renowned actor Giles Shenton truly lives the part of the legendry Head Gardener, Herbert Pinnegar, inviting you to feel included in a private chat from a bygone, comforting age. Keeping you engrossed, amused and emotionally engaged from start to finish, Old Herbaceous will leave you with a feeling that, perhaps, all’s right with the world.

“Downton Abbey with gardening tips” The Guardian
“Giles Shenton is superb…completely captivating, he has the audience’s attentions and imaginations throughout” The Reviews Hub
“Wonderful production” Surrey Advertiser
“Not to be missed” BBC Radio Kent
“What exactly was the factor that kept the audience riveted to Giles Shenton’s performance? He draws us into his world from his first entrance…and we are held entranced from start to finish….it is a nostalgic, quietly satisfying evening spent with someone who creates an instant rapport with the audience, drawing us into his world and making the characters in it so real you feel you have known them forever.” Edinburgh Fringe Review

It can often rain all day and then clear up just in time for the performance to start. Also we really don’t want to disappoint anyone – audiences or our actors (who are always keen to perform, if at all possible).

While we will make every effort to complete each show, we reserve the right to stop and start the show as necessary.
Shows will only ever be cancelled or abandoned in the event of bad weather, where such weather is deemed by either the theatre company or the venue to pose a health and safety risk. In any case, shows will never be cancelled before their advertised starting time.
We will not delay the start time of a show for more than 1 hour.
If a show is cancelled on account of the weather, we will announce this at the time of cancellation at the venue. We do not communicate cancellations to patrons who did not come to the venue or who have already left the venue.

Once the performance has started there will be no refunds if the event then has to be cancelled due to the weather. Kick In The Head will only refund bookings made via Ticket Source. Bookings made direct with the venue will have to be refunded by the venue.

Wonderful garden well worth a visit. Great variety of plants showing so many ways of portraying a garden layout. Must comment on the great tea and cakes selection, our dog loved the doggy ice cream!

Beautifully planted area, in which you are encouraged to walk along paths between the plants so can be completely surrounded by foliage - a lovely effect.
