Course outline: Printing without a press. Exploring monoprinting and Gelli print.
We will be exploring the basic techniques of mono printing where one off unique prints are made without the use of a press. We will use inks and rollers to create layers and simple direct drawings from nature. We will then produce spontaneous Gelli prints which are made using flexible rubber-like plate that holds textures and patterns. These are perfect for building up layers with stencils and overlapping colours to create beautiful images. We will be producing numerous prints with atmospheric textural qualities by pressing leaves and flowers into the plates. This workshop does not require any specific artistic skills other than an open mind and a sense of play. The numerous prints will become art pieces in their own right or idea for scrapbooking and collage. Gelli printing is addictive and once you start you won’t want to stop!
