Sustainable Sculpture with Caroline Bugby

Caroline Bugby

This creative and therapeutic course teaches a process of making art in a way that doesn’t harm the planet, in harmony with nature. This course is suitable for complete beginners or those looking to improve their skills.

You will learn about cob – an ancient building technique that is being revived as an eco-friendly material. The primary ingredient in cob is natural clay – unprocessed and dug straight out of the ground from a local source. You will mix cob yourself –with the option to do this this the traditional way by using your feet, or with your hands. Then you will be guided through how to model forms with it, either from observation or your imagination. No previous sculpting or art-making experience is necessary. By the end of the session you will have made your own sustainable sculpture to take home with you.

Take inspiration from the organic forms found within the Sussex Prairie Garden or bring an object with you to sculpt if you choose. I can recommend which items would be suitable – feel free to contact me and ask.

Price: £60 – this includes admission to the gardens and all the materials you will need.

To book your place or to ask a question, please email Caroline directly at carolinebugbysculptor@gmail.com

Beautifully planted area, in which you are encouraged to walk along paths between the plants so can be completely surrounded by foliage - a lovely effect.
