This new comic dystopian allegory is set in 2084 on the fictitious island of Abatina in a world where people are either glamorous celebrities or slobbering dog-like followers of them gripped to their telepafones – with the exception of the Nevnops (Not Very Nice People) as the President, Big Al, calls them.
The story follows Tina who enters ‘Marriage Maker’, a ‘telepavision’ gameshow. The idea of the game is if you win you get to marry the super-glamorous footballer, Harry Best, on the Saturday, have a weekend of love, then divorce him on the Monday. ‘All the fun & no ties!’ as the compere, Rich Nobb, puts it. Unfortunately, Tina makes the mistake of falling in love when she wins & doesn’t want to divorce. Doreen, her best friend, has her own opinion, but then she might be a Nevnop & the Mind Police might get to her first & send her to the wolves on the ‘Other Side’ – a dangerous world over ‘the mountain’ where the inhabitants of Abatina, according to Big Al, must not go, with dangerous free-thinkers & wolves that might get them. Will Tina get her man and will the Mind Police get Doreen? You’ll need to be there to find out.
Book your tickets – on the Rude Mechanical Website
https://www.therudemechanicaltheatre.co.uk/book-tickets/
Seating – Bring your own low backed chairs (average shoulder height). Tall chairs obstruct people’s view & they may not be admitted. Note that chairs are provided for the ‘little top’ week in Eastbourne.
Clothing – Wear warm clothes. It can get cold.
Opening time – .Bring your picnic to enjoy in the garden . Gates open at the garden at 530pm
Children & babies – The show is aimed at adults & is not a so-called ‘family show’, but mature children will enjoy it as long as they are prepared to sit & not run about. Do not bring babies ideally. However much we love them, they do distract. However, if you are confident they will be quiet then ok, but take them out if they make any kind of noise.
Dogs – Quiet dogs are welcome; please take out dogs that want to join in. Blind dogs only, however, for the ‘little top’ week.
Rain – We do not continue in heavy rain. If the show is cancelled before curtain up money will be refunded; if we cancel once the show is under way money will not be refunded, but you may come free to any subsequent performance as long as you re-book & tickets are available. Umbrellas must only be raised when the show comes to a stop.
