Join textile artist and tutor, Esther Collins, to study the shapes, outlines and patterns of leaves and their markings to print, cut out and create appliquéd shapes, which we will combine to make a beautiful hand-embroidered piece on a felt background. We will first spend some time using natural materials to do some simple mark making and printing on to fabric to create a unique stash, which we can use to make some interesting and unusual leaf shapes, as we consider the colours and markings of Autumnal leaves.
Learn the technique of raw edge appliqué, as we look at ways of simplifying shapes and experiment with using negative space and contrasting colours and threads. Observe the structure of leaves and practice and learn some simple hand embroidery stitches to enhance and compliment your appliquéd pieces. You will create a beautiful and unusual piece and come away with lots of ideas for future works.
Price includes all materials, plus tea, coffee and homemade biscuits and the opportunity to explore the inspiring Sussex Prairies Wild.
