Japanese Paper Doll Course with Lucy Dean

Saturday 10th June 10.00am to 2.00pm
Lucy will be sharing with you her love of making Japanese paper dolls,(Washi Ningyo) in both traditional and modern styles. Lucy is one of the artists exhibiting this year in the Prairie Gardens Gallery in the UNFURL exhibition.
The paper dolls make lovely unique decorations in their own right or can be mounted on greetings cards. We will use a variety of papers, which are picked for particular qualities that lend themselves to specific aspects of creating the dolls clothing and accessories. We will make at least one traditional kimono style doll and also one more modern doll taking inspiration from anime and Harajuku youth culture.. Each participant will leave with their own dolls they have made and a set of templates so that they can make more dolls at home.
The course is suitable for beginners, it is not a form of origami, although there is folding and paper manipulation involved.
The workshop will take place in the gallery surrounded by inspiring artwork indoors and fabulous gardens outside.
Materials for the workshop will be provided but you can also bring with you any papers that you might like to use
Numbers on the course maximum 10
Cost per person £65 includes materials and tea, coffee and biscuits. Price also includes entry into the Prairie gardens, you can stay as long as you like after the workshop. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy the gardens.
