Longstitch Bookbinding With Maudie Casserly

No prior experience needed

In this workshop we will create longstitch bindings using a high quality art paper and wraparound leather covers. You will learn the importance of basic hand skills and gain an understanding of your paper and materials. It is a decorative book to make and an enjoyable process to try at home with a variety of materials and paper.

We will cover:

– an introduction into bookbinding
– the importance of grain direction
– preparing a textblock.
– using a template to prepare the leather
– sewing through sections into leather
– finishing the covering

About your tutor:

In more recent years, Maudie has been focussing on teaching and currently works as a Books Tutor on the degree programmes at West Dean College of Art and Conservation, alongside working as a private book conservator.

Spaces are limited, so please book at https://www.thebookhut.co.uk or @thebookhutter on social media.

Wonderful garden well worth a visit. Great variety of plants showing so many ways of portraying a garden layout. Must comment on the great tea and cakes selection, our dog loved the doggy ice cream!

Beautifully planted area, in which you are encouraged to walk along paths between the plants so can be completely surrounded by foliage - a lovely effect.
