Obelisk & mini Wattle hurdle workshop

Learn a heritage skill (or two) in our outdoor workshop nestled within the picturesque location of Sussex Prairie Gardens. We have combined two workshops into one so that you can make and take home both an Obelisk (plant support) and Mini-Wattle Hurdle for your garden!
You will learn a traditional technique of weaving Willow and/or Hazel to make your very own Obelisk to support your climbers such as Sweet Peas or Clematis! Your finished Obelisk can be between 3ft and 7ft in height, we recommend you check how much available space you have in or on your car before deciding! Handled with care your Obelisk should last you for several years.

Perfect the skill of Wattle Hurdle Making using the same techniques applied to making full sized hurdle panels. You will learn how to make a very strong, miniature hurdle, 4ft or 6ft in length and suitable for use for either border or lawn edging.

We have included a one-hour lunch break between the two activities to allow you time to visit the teashop and gardens.

Your tutors will be husband and wife team Lorraine and Paul Matthews of Hedges & Hurdles, Country Skills & Crafts.

Cost: £85.00
20% discount for RHS members

Includes all materials and entrance to the garden.

Wonderful garden well worth a visit. Great variety of plants showing so many ways of portraying a garden layout. Must comment on the great tea and cakes selection, our dog loved the doggy ice cream!

Beautifully planted area, in which you are encouraged to walk along paths between the plants so can be completely surrounded by foliage - a lovely effect.
