Painting on Silk with artist Hilary Simon

* THIS EVENT HAS NOW FINISHED *

Friday 9th October 2020 | 9:00am - 2:00pm

Painting on Silk with artist Hilary Simon

This course in painting on silk, offers the opportunity to explore several techniques which can be applied to silk to create exciting effects – using gutta gum as a resist line, to draw the image, and the use of dyes, in building the layers.

The session begins with a comprehensive demonstration that explains the methods, and then the selection of approaches offered with dyes, salt effects, layering, and alcohol application, to create subtle results.

Drawing and building images on the silk can be done in figurative and abstract ways.

There are many approaches, and it is important to find the best way to achieve this for each individual.

It is suitable for all levels, and it is possible for everyone to create a stunning piece.

Sussex Prairies provides inspiration from their gardens, with the abundance of flowers that we can draw from, or participants can work from their own source of imagery.

A silk square will be the final piece with a small sample piece that we practise on.

Beautifully planted area, in which you are encouraged to walk along paths between the plants so can be completely surrounded by foliage - a lovely effect.
