Silver Strings

Silver Strings

Saturday 25th September from 4pm to 5pm at The Sussex Prairies

Brighton & Hove’s very own later-starter community string band has been running since early 2013 and throughout the pandemic via Zoom. So far we have introduced 200+ older people to playing stringed instruments and numbers are growing. We meet weekly to choose, play and devise music together: we play a wide range of material including folk tunes, classical themes, and popular melodies.

Silver Strings is a music group for adults who’ve always wanted to play a stringed instrument. At Silver Strings, we warm up gently and play as part of a larger group to make a wide variety of music together.
Learning an instrument in a group keeps our minds active and our fingers supple – and it’s a lot of fun!
Participants say:
“I get such a sense of achievement” (SW)
“My hands are now more agile” (DP)
“Every week is a highlight!” (RW)

Always wanted to play a musical instrument?
Then Silver Strings is for you!

We perform several times per year – Brighton Bandstand and Pavilion Gardens, Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, Stanmer Park’s Apple Day orchard stage, Patchfest and many other social events. Highlights include Brighton Royal Pavilion for the Mayor‘s Christmas drinks reception, a wedding at Stanmer House, and being filmed for Sky TV’s ‘The Secret Life of the Brain‘.

FREE TRIAL SESSIONS: first Tuesday of every month, 9:30-11:30am, at the Brighthelm Centre, North Road, Brighton – complete beginners are very welcome and we even provide the instruments! Booking essential via our contact form.

Siver Strings is run by Bela Enmerson of Music for Connection, Brighton & Hove’s specialist community music service for adults of all abilities.

We wish to contribute to a society in which everyone can connect through music-making: accessing, playing, and enjoying music together, regardless of economic circumstances, ability or needs, age, social status or previous musical experience.
