Sussex Prairie Garden is now closed for the winter
Lucy is one of the artists exhibiting in the Prairie Gardens Gallery in the UNFURL exhibition .
Taking inspiration from the delightful Cottingley Fairy photographs taken in 1917 by two young girls Elsie and Francis, we will make 2D images using drawing, painting, and collage to create our own fabulous fairies. We will be imagining the sort of fairies who might live at the Sussex Prairie gardens. Once we have created the fairies and cut them out, we will take them into the garden. Using wire and other invisible supports, we will then take photos of yourselves with the fairies, with the aim of them looking like the fairies are real.
The course is suitable for families. 1 adult with 1 child. Children aged 6 plus. The adult will be working on their own fairy while the child also makes their own fairy. There is something rather special about having an art session where all are equal and immersed in their making, giving mutual support but allowing each other to explore their own vision and skills.
The workshop will take place in the gallery surrounded by inspiring artwork and also in the fabulous gardens outside.
All materials for the workshop will be provided. You will need your own phone with a camera to take your photos.
Numbers on the course, 10 pairs of adult and child.
Cost per pair of adult and child is £40 includes materials and tea, coffee and biscuits. Price also includes entry into the Prairie gardens, you can stay as long as you like after the workshop. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy the gardens.
